NFL Expands Global Reach with Entry of Four New Teams into Global Markets Program

The Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and New York Giants are set to make their mark on the international stage as they join the NFL’s Global Markets Program for the first time. With a focus on expanding their presence globally, three of these teams are targeting Germany among their key markets.

Now in its third year, the NFL’s Global Markets Program boasts the participation of 25 teams spanning across 19 different markets worldwide. The initiative aims to assist teams in enhancing their international presence through various events, marketing endeavors, and commercial opportunities.

Notably, the Browns have secured rights to Nigeria, marking them as the first NFL team to penetrate that market. Meanwhile, the Giants have set their sights on Germany, while the Colts have gained access to both Austria and Germany. The Lions, on the other hand, have been granted rights in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada.

Expanding further, the Miami Dolphins are broadening their rights holdings to include Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico, with the latter two markets being targeted for the first time. This expansion complements Miami’s existing rights in Brazil, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

In a significant move, the Los Angeles Rams, who previously held rights in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Mexico, are now extending their reach to Japan and South Korea. This expansion underscores the league’s dedication to global growth and fostering passionate fan bases worldwide.

Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president for club business, major events, and international, expressed enthusiasm about the momentum of the Global Markets Program. He highlighted the commitment of NFL clubs to expanding the game and engaging with fans across the globe. O’Reilly emphasized the value of forging strategic partnerships to drive growth and anticipates the program’s continued impact on global fandom in the upcoming season and beyond.
