Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has responded with calmness to accusations of avoiding 1 million euros ($1.09 million) in taxes on image rights revenues during his tenure at the club in 2014 and 2015. A Spanish prosecutor is seeking a prison term of four years and nine months for the veteran manager.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the prosecutor alleged that although Ancelotti was a resident in Spain for tax purposes during the mentioned period and filed his tax returns there, he had omitted the income earned through image rights.
After Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16 second leg tie, Ancelotti addressed the accusations, stating, “It’s an old story and it’s not affecting me. I hope it can be solved soon, and I don’t have any problem, and I’m calm about it. The only problem I have is that the team needs to perform better.”
The prosecutor also accused Ancelotti of purportedly transferring his image rights to entities lacking real activity outside Spain, a move seen as an attempt to avoid paying taxes.
Despite the legal scrutiny, Ancelotti remains composed and focused on his managerial responsibilities at Real Madrid. The situation adds an extra layer of complexity for Ancelotti, who is currently navigating the challenges of leading the team to success on the field.
