In the second round of the ATX Open in Austin, Texas, Chinese tennis players Yue Yuan and Yafan Wang delivered strong performances, both securing straight-set victories.
Yue Yuan, the No. 8 seed, defeated Taylor Townsend of the United States with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (5). Despite facing a 4-1 deficit in the second set, Yuan made a comeback, forcing a tiebreaker and eventually securing the win.
Yafan Wang also had a convincing victory, beating Colombian Emiliana Arango 6-2, 6-2. Wang showcased her resilience by saving nine of 10 break points during the match.
The two Chinese players will now face each other in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for an intriguing matchup.
In other results, top-seeded Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina dominated her match against Camila Osorio of Colombia with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. French fifth seed Diane Parry secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova.
Meanwhile, at the Cymbiotika San Diego Open, Australia’s Daria Saville staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Tatjana Maria with a score of 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Maria had a match point opportunity but couldn’t capitalize, and Saville took control in the tiebreaker.
In another match, Ukrainian sixth seed Marta Kostyuk won 6-4, 6-3 against Australian Taylah Preston.
Later in the day, additional matches were scheduled, featuring second-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia against Britain’s Katie Boulter and top-seeded Jessica Pegula against Germany’s Jule Niemeier.
