The NFL has fined Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton $8,238 for his horse-collar tackle on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy during Super Bowl LVIII. The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ thrilling 25-22 overtime victory in Las Vegas on Feb. 11, drawing a 15-yard penalty.
Bolton’s fine, confirmed on Monday, was the only one issued for infractions in the Super Bowl game. Despite drawing a personal foul for unnecessary roughness, Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was not fined.
In the game, Bolton, 23, delivered a standout performance, tying San Francisco’s Fred Warner for the game-high with 13 tackles. Bolton also contributed with one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits against the 49ers.
Drafted in the second round by the Chiefs in 2021, Bolton has quickly established himself as a key contributor, amassing 352 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions in 41 career regular-season games, with 37 starts. The fine reflects the NFL’s commitment to enforcing player safety rules, even in high-stakes games like the Super Bowl.
