Frances Tiafoe, back in action after his Australian Open exit, showcased his prowess with a commanding victory in the second round of the Dallas Open. The top-seeded Tiafoe, who received a first-round bye, defeated Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-3 in a matchup of U.S. players. Despite Michelsen’s impressive performance with a 9-1 edge in aces and more winners, Tiafoe’s solid game, coupled with fewer unforced errors, secured him the win.
Seventh-seeded Jordan Thompson of Australia and eighth-seeded Dominik Koepfer of Germany also advanced smoothly with straight-set victories. In Marseille, France, the top two seeds, Hubert Hurkacz of Poland and Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, showcased their dominance with straight-set wins in the second round. Hurkacz thrashed Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko 6-1, 6-4, riding a strong performance on his first serve. Rain disrupted most of the action in Cordoba, Argentina, with just one match completed. Argentinian qualifier Luciano Darderi stunned fourth-seeded Sebastian Ofner of Austria with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory, advancing to the ATP quarterfinals for the first time. Another Argentinian qualifier, Roman Andres Burruchaga, held a lead over seventh-seeded Yannick Hanfmann of Germany before their match was suspended due to rain.
