Wentz, who previously made a brief appearance for the Rams this season without attempting a pass, showcased his talent by completing 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. His standout moment came when he rushed for a 12-yard touchdown and followed it up with a successful two-point conversion to Tutu Atwell, giving the Rams their first lead of the day with 4:56 left in the game. Wentz’s dynamic performance also included 17 rushing attempts for 56 yards.

Despite the 49ers’ quarterback Sam Darnold making his first start of the season and contributing 189 passing yards, a touchdown, and a rushing score, the Rams emerged victorious. The game, featuring many reserves due to both teams securing playoff berths, ended with Darnold fumbling during the 49ers’ last-ditch effort to get into field-goal range.

The 49ers, with a 12-5 record, had already secured the top seed in the NFC and will enjoy a bye week when the playoffs begin. Meanwhile, the Rams, with a 10-7 record, clinched the No. 6 seed with their crucial win.

Los Angeles star wide receiver Puka Nacua played a significant role in the game, setting rookie records with consecutive catches. Nacua’s 7-yard reception surpassed the rookie yardage record of 1,473 set by Bill Groman in 1960. His fifth connection with Wentz marked his 105th catch, breaking the rookie record held by Jaylen Waddle in 2021.

Despite trailing 20-7 at halftime, the Rams narrowed the deficit to 20-13 in the third quarter when Wentz connected with Tyler Johnson for an 8-yard touchdown. The comeback was completed with Wentz’s late heroics, securing the Rams’ playoff position and ending the regular season on a high note.
