In a commanding performance, Ticket Gaines spearheaded Providence’s 86-52 triumph over visiting Wagner on Tuesday night, showcasing his prowess with 21 points, including seven successful 3-pointers.
Providence (6-1) demonstrated exceptional offensive efficiency, boasting a 52.7 percent shooting accuracy from the field. The team also exhibited long-range proficiency, sinking 13 shots from beyond the arc, and facilitated team play with an impressive 25 assists on 29 baskets, securing their third consecutive victory.
Bryce Hopkins played a crucial role in the victory, contributing 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, along with six rebounds and two assists. Devin Carter delivered a double-double performance, notching 10 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Josh Oduro added 12 points, rounding out the quartet of Friars scoring in double figures.
The first half set the tone for Providence’s dominance, highlighted by a decisive 13-1 run that propelled them to a comfortable 38-20 halftime lead. A subsequent 16-0 run early in the second half further solidified their control of the game.
On the opposing side, Melvin Council Jr. led Wagner (2-4) with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while Zaire Williams contributed 12 points.
Gaines showcased his scoring prowess early, connecting on four consecutive 3-pointers, establishing a 13-point lead for Providence midway through the first half. Five of Gaines’ 3-pointers were instrumental in Providence’s 18-point halftime advantage.

Donovan Santoro added a late flourish to Providence’s performance, hitting a 3-pointer and contributing five points in the closing minutes.
