Young Boys’ manager, Raphael Wicky, expressed surprise and indicated that he would speak with his captain, Mohammed Ali Camara, after learning that Camara had requested to exchange shirts with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland during halftime in their recent match. Young Boys lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the game.
Wicky told reporters, “I didn’t see that, that’s news to me, and I’m a little bit surprised by that right now.” He added, “On the other hand, I don’t think it had anything to do with the game or the performance, but I’ll probably have a word with him and see what he thought. Maybe Erling asked him to swap, I don’t know!”
The exchange occurred as the players were heading to the tunnel during halftime. While it is common for players to trade shirts after a match, exchanging shirts at halftime is rare and can be viewed as unusual by fans, as it happens during the heat of the game.
Former Manchester City player Keith Curle, now a pundit, mentioned he would be unhappy as a manager if his player engaged in such an exchange. On the other hand, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, did not express any concern about the swap, stating, “I don’t know about it. We win 3-0. It happened, I don’t know the reason why.”
