New Zealand Questions World Rugby Over Officiating in World Cup Final

New Zealand’s outgoing coach, Ian Foster, has raised concerns about some of the officiating during their World Cup final loss to South Africa. The Springboks clinched a 12-11 victory in a fiercely contested match, featuring several yellow cards, and one upgraded to red for New Zealand’s captain, Sam Cane, due to a high tackle. Foster’s team was left with 14 men for more than half the game. Furthermore, New Zealand had a try by Aaron Smith canceled by the Television Match Official due to a knock-on on the other side of the pitch.

Foster revealed that New Zealand has submitted a file to World Rugby, seeking clarification on certain officiating decisions. While he did not specify the exact aspects of the game in question, he expressed hope that World Rugby would provide insights into the matter. Foster’s tenure as All Blacks coach concluded with the World Cup final, and his successor, Scott Robertson, is set to take over. Foster and his coaching staff will conduct a performance review, which players may not be directly involved in.

The officiating decisions during the final have sparked discussions and prompted New Zealand to seek clarity from the global governing body, World Rugby.
