Christine Sinclair, the renowned striker and the world’s all-time leading international goalscorer, will conclude her illustrious international career with a two-match series against Australia in early December, as confirmed by Canada Soccer on Monday.
Despite announcing her retirement last week, Sinclair will continue to play for the Portland Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League during the upcoming season.
The Canadian national team, which was eliminated by Australia in the group phase of this year’s Women’s World Cup, will face the Matildas in two matches on December 1 and December 5, to be held in British Columbia.
Canada’s head coach, Bev Priestman, emphasized the importance of these matches as part of their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also highlighted the significance of these games as they present an incredible opportunity to celebrate Sinclair’s historic and decorated career in her hometown of Vancouver.
Christine Sinclair, who is 40 years old, has left an indelible mark on the international stage, amassing a remarkable 190 goals for Canada in 327 appearances. Her international career also includes an Olympic gold medal and participation in six World Cups.
In the previous month, Sinclair played a pivotal role in helping Canada secure a spot in the Paris Olympics with a crucial victory over Jamaica in Toronto.
