In a defensive showdown, the Buffalo Bills secured a 14-9 victory over the New York Giants, thanks to a resilient performance led by quarterback Josh Allen. Despite a slow start, Allen delivered two crucial touchdown throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Allen completed 19 of 30 passes for 169 yards, including an interception. His primary target, Stefon Diggs, made 10 receptions for 100 yards. The Bills (4-2) handed the Giants (1-5) their fourth consecutive loss.
The turning point came at the start of the fourth quarter when Allen connected with Deonte Harty for a 3-yard touchdown, capping a 17-play, 89-yard drive, putting the Bills ahead 7-6. The Giants answered with a 79-yard drive but settled for Graham Gano’s 29-yard field goal, leaving them trailing.
Allen rallied his team, orchestrating a 12-play, 75-yard drive and finding Quintin Morris, a backup tight end who hadn’t been targeted all season, for the game-winning score with 3:48 left.
The Giants made late efforts but couldn’t capitalize. After the first drive fizzled, the Bills’ Tyler Bass missed a long field goal. New York mounted a 56-yard, 13-play drive in the final 1:25 and had a final opportunity when a pass interference call on Buffalo gave them one more shot. However, Tyrod Taylor’s potential TD pass to Darren Waller fell incomplete on the untimed down.
Taylor, filling in for the injured Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, completed 24 of 36 passes for 200 yards. Saquon Barkley, making his return after an ankle sprain in Week 2, rushed 24 times for 93 yards.
The game was marred by an injury to Bills running back Damien Harris, who hurt his neck on a 1-yard run late in the first half. He was taken off the field in an ambulance but had movement in his arms and legs, according to the Bills.
The Giants relied on two field goals during the first half, with Gano making successful attempts from 29 yards in the first quarter and 43 yards in the second. The Bills struggled in the first half, with six scoreless drives, including a missed 52-yard field goal attempt by Bass. Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke forced a fumble, recovered by Micah McFadden, adding to Buffalo’s woes.
On Buffalo’s sixth drive, Okereke deflected a pass, leading to McFadden’s interception. The Giants managed a 58-yard drive in the final 2:23 before halftime, but they couldn’t line up in time for another play, leaving the score 6-0 at the break.
