The Braves had struggled offensively against Phillies ace Zack Wheeler for most of the game. However, Riley’s decisive home run off Jeff Hoffman in the eighth inning breathed new life into the team.

Speaking about his game-changing homer, Riley said, “I was just trying to put a barrel on the ball. It’s definitely up there with my top ones. … Obviously, still a lot of work to do. Just going to enjoy this one tonight.”

Riley’s contributions extended beyond his offensive heroics. In the ninth inning, as the Phillies threatened to tie or take the lead, Bryce Harper was on first base when Nick Castellanos hit a deep fly ball to right-center field. Braves center fielder Michael Harris II made a sensational leaping catch against the outfield fence, but Harper had advanced too far past second base. Riley, backing up the play, threw to first to retire Harper and seal the victory for Atlanta.

Travis d’Arnaud also played a significant role for the Braves, hitting a two-run homer in the seventh inning to bring his team within one run of the Phillies. It was his first postseason home run this year and the 10th of his career.

Phillies starter Zack Wheeler was dominant for most of the game, striking out 10 Braves batters and allowing just three hits and three runs (two earned) over 6 1/3 innings.

J.T. Realmuto contributed a two-run homer for the Phillies, while Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott added an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, respectively.

Despite the Phillies’ early lead, the Braves staged an incredible comeback, showcasing their resilience and determination. The series is now tied at 1-1, setting the stage for an exciting Game 3 in Philadelphia.

Atlanta’s Max Fried, who returned to action after dealing with a blister on his left index finger, pitched four innings, allowing three runs and six hits. A.J. Minter and Raisel Iglesias played crucial roles in preserving the Braves’ comeback victory.

The NLDS remains finely poised, with both teams eager to advance to the next round of the playoffs. Game 3 promises to be a thrilling showdown between the Braves and the Phillies.
