Denmark’s midfield maestro, Christian Eriksen, orchestrated a spectacular display in his team’s commanding 4-0 victory against San Marino during their Euro 2024 Group H qualifier. Eriksen not only found the back of the net but also contributed with two assists, propelling Denmark to an effortless win over their opponents.
Eriksen initially had an opportunity to break the deadlock in the 20th minute when he stepped up to take a penalty. However, the decision was overturned by VAR. Nevertheless, Denmark soon took the lead through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
In the 26th minute, Hojbjerg, the combative midfielder, skillfully received a pass from Jonas Wind, allowing the ball to roll across his body before confidently slotting a right-footed shot into the net.
Just two minutes later, Eriksen showcased his artistry once again, wrong-footing the San Marino defense with a sublime backheel pass that found Joakim Maehle in stride. Maehle calmly rounded the goalkeeper and finished with ease to extend Denmark’s lead.
Eriksen, making his 123rd appearance for Denmark, secured his second assist in the 40th minute, setting up striker Jonas Wind for another goal. In second-half stoppage time, Eriksen managed to get on the scoresheet himself with a speculative cross that caught San Marino’s keeper, Elia Benedettini, off guard.
Initially credited to substitute Yussuf Poulsen, the goal was later officially awarded to Eriksen, capping off a remarkable evening for the 31-year-old playmaker.
This convincing victory elevates Denmark to second place in the group with 10 points from five games, trailing leaders Finland by two points and holding a superior goal difference over third-placed Slovenia.
