In a commanding display of baseball prowess, the Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a resounding 10-3 victory in Anaheim, California. The Orioles, currently riding a five-game winning streak, showcased their dominance on the road, securing their ninth sweep of the season and maintaining a 3 1/2 game lead atop the American League East.
Austin Hays played a starring role in the Orioles’ victory, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including a home run, and contributing four RBIs to his team’s tally. Anthony Santander also had a standout performance, batting 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Baltimore’s recent surge has seen them win 11 of their last 14 games.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Kyle Gibson (14-8) delivered a solid performance, lasting six innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Gibson’s effort on the mound not only secured the win but also tied him with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Chris Bassitt for the most wins in the American League.
On the other side, Angels’ left-hander Patrick Sandoval (7-12) struggled, walking four batters, all of whom eventually crossed home plate. Sandoval gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and managed three strikeouts.
The Angels continued to face difficulties, marking their sixth consecutive loss and dropping to a 1-9 record since August 27th.
The Orioles took an early lead in the second inning when Ramon Urias drove in Hays with a single. Baltimore extended their advantage in the third inning, amassing four runs to build a 5-0 lead.
However, the Angels fought back in the bottom of the third, with Luis Rengifo hitting a two-run homer, his 16th of the season, to narrow the Orioles’ lead to 5-2.
Baltimore continued to pile on the runs, taking advantage of Sandoval’s struggles and Jaime Barria’s entry into the game. Santander and Hays were instrumental in this effort, driving in runs in the sixth inning.
Although the Angels managed to score another run in the bottom of the sixth, the Orioles ultimately sealed their victory with back-to-back homers in the eighth inning. Santander’s two-run blast marked his 27th homer of the year, followed by Hays’ solo shot, his 14th, as the Orioles cruised to a 10-3 win.
