Manchester United Takes Assault Allegations Against Striker Antony Seriously

Manchester United has issued a statement expressing their seriousness in addressing assault allegations against their striker Antony, which have led to his exclusion from Brazil’s national squad for two upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Antony’s withdrawal from the Brazilian squad came following the publication of physical assault allegations by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, as reported by local media outlet UOL.

Manchester United emphasized its commitment to treating the case against Antony with utmost seriousness, taking into account the potential impact of these allegations and their subsequent media coverage on survivors of abuse. The club acknowledged the ongoing police inquiry into the matter and stated that they would refrain from making further comments until more information becomes available.

The Brazilian soccer federation (CBF) also addressed the situation by announcing Antony’s withdrawal from the national squad. This decision was made in order to protect the alleged victim, the player himself, the Brazilian national team, and the CBF.

Antony, in response to the allegations, mentioned that he could not provide additional details due to the ongoing police investigation but asserted with confidence that the allegations against him were false.

A spokesperson for Brazil’s Public Security Secretariat confirmed that a police investigation into the matter is indeed underway.

Brazil’s national team coach, Fernando Diniz, has called up Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus as a replacement for Antony. Brazil is scheduled to host Bolivia on Friday and then visit Peru four days later as they commence their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
