In a low-scoring WODI series opener, the hosts Bangladesh Women beat India Women by 40 runs (DLS method). It was their historic first WODI win against India Women.
This three-match WODI series is a part of the 2022–2025 ICC Women’s Championship. In that Mirpur WODI, India Women chose to field first after winning the toss. While Shorna Akter made her WODI debut for Bangladesh Women, Amanjot Kaur and Bareddy Anusha were the WODI debutants from India Women.
Bangladesh Women: 152 all out; Amanjot Kaur 4/31
Due to rain in the middle overs in the first innings, the WODI was shortened to a 44-over match for both sides. Debutant Amanjot Kaur’s 4-fer bowled out the hosts to 152 runs in 43 overs as India Women had to chase 154 runs in 44 overs (revised target). Only the skipper Nigar Sultana (39) and Fargana Hoque (27) crossed the 20-run mark in that innings.
The 23-year-old right-arm pacer Kaur finished the innings with her bowling figures 9-2-31-4. She became the second Indian WODI debutant to claim at least four wickets.
India Women: 113 all out; Marufa Akter 4/29
In reply, Indian batters failed to capitalize on their starts. Despite seven batters managing double-digit scores, only Deepti Sharma (20) managed to cross 15 runs as India Women were bundled out for only 113 runs in 35.5 overs.
For that historic 40-run victory (DLS method), Bangladesh bowlers Marufa Akter (7-0-29-4) and Rabeya Khan (7.5-0-30-3) had huge roles. Marufa won the Player of the Match award for her excellent match-winning bowling performance.
Bangladesh Women’s 1st WODI win against India Women
It was the back-to-back international wins for Bangladesh Women against India Women. Their previous game of this tour was a WT20I, where Bangladesh Women beat India Women by four wickets to end their series defeat by 1-2.
However, Bangladesh Women have now taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match home WODI series with two to go. It was the sixth WODI meeting between India Women and Bangladesh Women, where the Bangladesh team recorded their first victory after five consecutive defeats.
