Cincinnati Bearcats football team is mourning the sudden loss of freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly, who died early Tuesday morning. The team and university have expressed their heartbreak over the passing of the young player, who had shown great promise and made a significant impact both on and off the field.
In a statement, head coach Scott Satterfield said, “The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man. In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.”
The school did not provide further details regarding the cause of Kelly’s death, which occurred at his residence. Director of athletics John Cunningham also expressed sorrow, calling it a “heartbreaking loss” and pledging support for the Kelly family and the team during this difficult time.
Jeremiah Kelly had recently enrolled at Cincinnati, joining the team as an early enrollee and practicing with the Bearcats during the spring. A top offensive line prospect from Ohio, he helped lead Avon High School to a perfect 16-0 record and its first-ever state championship in 2024. He earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors, as well as the SWC Lineman of the Year title.
The Cincinnati Bearcats community is coming together to support one another as they process this tragic loss.
