The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team saw its 2025 season come to an end Thursday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Troy University in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Rome Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers started strong in doubles, with Aida Mitrache and Brunelle Kouam cruising to a 6-3 win on court three. But Troy responded with back-to-back victories on courts one and two to take the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead.
Senior Anna Babayan provided an early singles boost for the Chants, dominating her matchup with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot to level the score at 1-1. Troy’s Maria Guirguis answered quickly, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mitrache on court two to give the Trojans a 2-1 edge.
Kouam kept the match alive with a gritty comeback on court three, battling from a set down to defeat Valeriia Avdeeva 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 and even the contest at 2-2.
From there, Troy pulled ahead for good. Leena Metwally outlasted Nicole Abel in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-1), and Hagar Amin sealed the match with a tight 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Katya Hersh on court five, handing Troy a 4-2 victory and ending Coastal’s postseason hopes.
