No. 8 seed Lafayette opened the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship with a dominant 4–0 win over No. 9 seed Holy Cross on Thursday. The first-round match took place at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts and was presented by Credit Union 1.
With the sweep, the Leopards move on to face No. 1 seed Army West Point in Friday’s quarterfinal at 8:30 a.m.
Lafayette quickly took control by winning the doubles point. On court three, Olivia Boeckman and Alexandra Waldman shut out Ava Lannigan and Alison Lynn, 6-0. Moments later, Hanna Ganchi and Alyssa Perdomo sealed the point with a 6-2 win over Caroline Carlson and Maddie Hamm on court one.
In singles play, Lafayette stayed sharp with straight-set wins on courts six and four. Maire Sofia Romaniello handled Ava Lannigan 6-1, 6-0, while Alexandra Waldman defeated Caroline Fredey 6-2, 6-0.
Alyssa Perdomo clinched the match at No. 2 singles, overpowering Maddie Hamm with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Several matches went unfinished, including No. 1 singles, where Hanna Ganchi and Caroline Carlson were mid-way through a close battle.
