Crimson’s Comeback Bids Fall Short in Straight-Set Loss to Penn State

The 2025 season came to a close for Harvard men’s volleyball (9-15, 5-7 EIVA) on Thursday night, as the Crimson fell to Penn State (12-15, 8-4 EIVA) in straight sets in the opening round of the EIVA Tournament.

How It Happened

Harvard fought hard in the opening set, tying the score four times early on. Penn State edged ahead 11-8, but the Crimson answered with a three-point run to even things. Penn State led 15-13 at the media timeout and pushed their lead to four. Harvard battled back to tie it at 21 and again at 22, even fighting off one set point, but the Nittany Lions ultimately claimed the set, 25-23.

In the second set, Harvard took its first significant lead at 15-12. The Crimson held control into the late moments before Penn State tied it at 22 and moved ahead 24-22. Harvard fought off six set points in a gritty display, but Penn State prevailed in an extended battle, 30-28.

Momentum carried into the third for the Nittany Lions, who opened up with an 8-4 lead. Harvard cut the margin to six late in the set, but Penn State stayed in control and closed out the match with a 25-15 win.

The loss ends Harvard’s 2025 campaign, while Penn State advances to the next round of the EIVA Tournament.
