Marshall University’s baseball team (20-22) overwhelmed Morehead State (12-27) in a high-scoring 32-15 victory Wednesday night in Morehead, Kentucky, showcasing one of the most dominant offensive performances in program history.
The Herd erupted for 33 hits, with 11 players collecting multiple hits and 10 players driving in multiple runs. Marshall scored in all but two innings, tallying six runs in the first and exploding for 10 more in the ninth.
Offensive Leaders
Elijah Vogelsong led the charge, going 4-for-5 at the plate. He scored six runs, drove in five, and walked three times, falling just a home run short of hitting for the cycle.
Cam Harthan also collected four hits and five RBI, while Nolan Wilson had four hits and a two-run homer among his three RBI.
Tyler Kamerer, AJ Havrilla, and Ethan Murdoch each recorded three hits, with Havrilla and Murdoch both collecting multiple RBI.
Jack Smith, Joel Gardner, and Eddie Leon had two hits and two RBI apiece. Jackson Golden and Will Lafferty added two hits each.
In the ninth, Cooper Hinson capped the night with a three-run triple.
On the Mound
Blaine Albright earned his first win of the season after striking out four of the five batters he faced in a perfect 1.2 innings.
Charlie Krebs, Tim Baird, and Brandon Brunette closed the game with three combined scoreless innings, with Baird and Brunette each retiring the side in order.
