The Lindenwood baseball team (20-21) defeated Rockhurst (20-20) by a score of 14-5 on Wednesday night at Lou Brock Sports Complex, extending their recent strong play.
Game Overview
Lindenwood struck early, putting together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning. Filip Sarota and Bryson Arnette hit back-to-back singles, then executed a double steal to put the Lions ahead 1-0. Tanner Simpson followed up with an RBI single, increasing the lead to 2-0.
The Lions added another run in the second when Evan Funkhouser doubled home Jack Meyer, extending their advantage to 3-0. In the third, Lindenwood piled on three straight hits, including an RBI single from Brody Barker, making it 4-0. Funkhouser’s sacrifice fly and a run from Mitch Cummins pushed the lead to 6-0.
Rockhurst responded in the fourth with one run and a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3. However, Lindenwood quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth from a single by Sarota, making it 7-3.
Barker’s two-RBI single in the eighth extended the lead to 10-5, and a three-run triple by Tyler Thompson put the Lions up 13-5. A sacrifice fly from Sarota capped off the win at 14-5.
