Barcelona edged past Mallorca with a narrow 1-0 home win thanks to a second-half strike from Dani Olmo, extending their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points over Real Madrid. The result gives Barça a cushion with five games remaining, although Real still have a game in hand and will face Getafe on Wednesday.
Despite coach Hansi Flick rotating his squad ahead of Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona controlled most of the match. Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Román made several key saves to keep the scoreline close. But shortly after halftime, Olmo broke the deadlock with a moment of brilliance—firing a quick left-footed shot into the bottom corner from a tight space in the box.
Elsewhere in La Liga, Valencia came from behind to draw 1-1 at home with Espanyol. Javi Guerra equalized in the 57th minute after Javi Puado gave the visitors the lead late in the first half. Both teams remain mid-table, with Espanyol ahead on goal difference.
PSG March On in Ligue 1
In France, Paris Saint-Germain extended their unbeaten Ligue 1 campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Nantes. Vitinha opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after a slick pass from Lee Kang-in. Nantes responded strongly in the second half, with Jean-Charles Castelletto testing PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before Douglas Augusto equalized with a powerful shot seven minutes from time. Gonçalo Ramos nearly scored a winner for PSG, but his header struck the crossbar in stoppage time.
PSG, who have already secured the league title, are now 23 points clear of Marseille. Nantes sit 14th, just four points above the relegation zone.
Union Saint-Gilloise Reveal Real Culprit in Ball-Throwing Scandal
In Belgium, Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that their reserve goalkeeper Vic Chambaere—not their kitman—was the one who threw a second ball onto the field during a crucial moment in their 2-1 win over Racing Genk. The incident occurred as Genk attempted a last-minute comeback and halted play during a decisive attack.
Initially, kitman Ibrahim Fadili was sent off. However, the club later issued a statement clarifying the mix-up and emphasizing its commitment to fair play. “Our equipment manager was wrongfully sent off,” the club said. “The action does not reflect the values of Union or our supporters.”
As a result of the disciplinary hearing, Chambaere, a former Genk player, received a four-match suspension and a €5,000 fine. Fadili was also punished for misleading the referee, receiving a two-match ban and a €2,500 fine.
The controversy overshadowed a significant win that brings Union level with Genk at the top of the Belgian Pro League playoff standings. Club Brugge now lead the title race by two points, setting up a dramatic finish with four matches to go.
