The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics is mourning the sudden and unexpected passing of freshman football player Jeremiah Kelly. He passed away early Tuesday morning at his residence.
“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” said Head Coach Scott Satterfield. “In the short time Jeremiah was with our team, he made a real impact—on the field and in the locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Jeremiah.”
Kelly, a native of Avon, Ohio, was a standout offensive lineman at Avon High School. He helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated 16-0 season and their first-ever state championship in 2024. During his senior year, he earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors and was named Southwestern Conference Lineman of the Year. The Plain Dealer ranked him among Northeast Ohio’s Top 25 football prospects.
He joined the University of Cincinnati as an early enrollee and had been practicing with the Bearcats during the spring semester.
“We’ve suffered a heartbreaking loss today,” said Cincinnati Director of Athletics John Cunningham. “All of us at UC send our love and prayers to the Kelly family. We will do everything we can to support them and our student-athletes during this incredibly difficult time.”
