Wayne State tennis players Cedric Drenth and Anais Ruyssen have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Players of the Week following standout performances in the final week of the 2025 regular season.
Men’s Player of the Week: Cedric Drenth
Drenth played a key role in Wayne State’s 5-2 victory over Ferris State, helping the Warriors close the season on a high note. The senior secured a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win in the No. 1 singles spot. With the victory, he became the all-time leader in singles wins at WSU, setting a new program record with 105 career victories.
In doubles, Drenth teamed up with Tom Wasner for a 6-2 win over Ferris State’s top duo, adding to his dominant showing.
Women’s Player of the Week: Anais Ruyssen
Graduate student Anais Ruyssen led the Wayne State women’s tennis team to a 7-0 sweep of Ferris State, completing an undefeated 8-0 conference season and securing the GLIAC regular season title.
Ruyssen earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles and partnered with Dea Gorgidze for a 6-4 doubles victory in the top spot. Her efforts helped seal a statement win and capped off an impressive conference campaign.
