The 72nd edition of the Barcelona Open, also known as the Trofeo Conde de Godó, is in full swing at the Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona. Running from April 12 to April 20, the prestigious ATP500 tournament brings together top tennis talent on the red clay of Spain’s oldest tennis club, founded in 1899.

Since its beginning in 1953, the Barcelona Open has become a key event in the clay court season and a beloved part of Spanish tennis culture. With 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, the tournament is known not only for its high-level competition but also for its strong local roots.

“Barcelona is known for its tennis players because they play very well on clay. It’s a nice event in Easter to visit, watch tennis and have fun,” said Alejandro Riera of the Match Ball fan shop.

Martin Lussich, Stringer Manager at HEAD, emphasized the tournament’s importance: “Barcelona is the most important tournament in Spain. All the top players from the 70s came here to play clay. It has a lot of history.”

This year’s field includes top international names such as Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Spain’s own Carlos Alcaraz, a multiple Grand Slam champion.

The singles final will take place on Sunday, April 20, with the winner receiving the tournament’s legendary trophy—crafted from sterling silver and American oak, weighing 13 kilos. It’s a prize that carries both physical weight and historical significance.
