The 2025 American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship began Thursday at the Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis, Tennessee, with three first-round matches. All higher-seeded teams advanced as Charlotte, UTSA, and Wichita State claimed victories to move into Friday’s quarterfinals.
Charlotte, the defending champions, and Wichita State posted dominant wins, while UTSA held off a determined Tulane squad in a tight 4-3 decision.

Seventh-seeded Charlotte began its title defense with a convincing 4-1 win over No. 10 Temple. The Owls claimed the doubles point early, but the 49ers roared back by sweeping four singles matches in straight sets.
Vasco Prata, last year’s Championship Most Outstanding Player, led the charge with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Teammates Ivan Dreycopp, Frederic Schlossmann, and Lance Cochran added quick victories to seal the result. Charlotte advances to face No. 2 seed Memphis on Friday in a rematch of last year’s championship final.
Dreycopp and Cochran also won their doubles match, contributing to a strong overall team effort.

In the closest match of the day, No. 6 UTSA edged No. 11 Tulane 4-3. The Roadrunners needed a third-set clincher from Oskar Grzegorzewski at No. 3 singles to break a 3-3 tie and move on.
Tulane started strong by taking the doubles point and added wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. But UTSA bounced back with wins from Tiago Torres (No. 1), Danijal Muminovic (No. 2), and Miguel Alonso (No. 5) before Grzegorzewski closed it out 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
UTSA will next meet third-seeded Florida Atlantic in the quarterfinals.
