Troy men’s basketball has added a major talent to its roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Head coach Scott Cross announced Wednesday evening the signing of high school standout Javen Colbert.
Colbert, who hails from Decatur, Texas, is widely regarded as one of the top offensive high school players in the state. Known for his smooth shooting and strong playmaking, he’s expected to make an immediate impact in the Trojans’ backcourt.
“We are super fired up to sign Javen Colbert here at Troy,” said Cross. “He was the leading scorer in all of Texas and the 4A Player of the Year, which is a huge accomplishment. He’s one of the best pure shooters I’ve ever seen. He’s an OKG—‘Our Kind of Guy’—and will fit in perfectly with our current roster. Plus, he likes Waffle House too!”
Colbert played at Decatur High School from 2022 to 2024, scoring over 2,600 career points. In his senior season alone, he posted 1,102 points, averaging 32.2 points per game. That scoring average ranked 28th nationally. He also contributed 5.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting an impressive 51.0% from the field and 42.0% from three-point range.
During his final high school season, Colbert recorded seven games with over 40 points, including a standout 51-point performance.
He is the son of Rob and Jessica Yeatts and has three siblings: Kyleigh, Arianna, and Jett. Colbert plans to major in sports management at Troy.
Colbert joins fellow signees Tony Montgomery and Emmanuel Clarton, who committed during the early signing period in November.
