Kunlavut Vitidsarn Makes History as World No. 2 in BWF Rankings

Thailand’s Kunlavut “View” Vitidsarn has made history by becoming the world’s No. 2 ranked men’s singles badminton player—the highest ranking ever achieved by a Thai male player.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) released its weekly rankings on Monday, April 15. Kunlavut’s rise follows his historic victory at the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships, where he won the men’s singles title on April 13 in Ningbo, China.

With the win, Kunlavut earned 12,000 ranking points, bringing his total to 89,138. He now ranks ahead of Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen. Only China’s Shi Yuqi, with 99,435 points, remains ahead of him in the global standings.

This marks the first time a Thai male player has won the prestigious Asia Championships and reached the No. 2 spot in the BWF world rankings.

Kunlavut’s next tournament will be the 2025 BWF Sudirman Cup Finals, a global mixed team competition. The event runs from April 27 to May 4 in Xiamen, China. Thailand has been placed in Group A alongside host nation and defending champions China, as well as Hong Kong and Algeria.
