Saint Joseph’s women’s tennis team fell to Navy, 6–1, on Tuesday afternoon in one of its final home matches of the season at the Springton Tennis Club.
The Hawks (record not provided) managed one singles victory but were unable to match Navy’s overall consistency across the lineup.
Doubles Struggles
Navy took the early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Midshipmen earned victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights to secure the doubles point.
Saint Joseph’s duo of Charlotte Kordonowy and Brooke Tackett fought hard in the No. 2 spot, pushing the match into a tiebreaker before narrowly falling.
Singles Play
Senior Victoria Tracey was the bright spot for the Hawks, claiming a straight-sets win in the No. 2 singles slot to briefly tie the match at 1-1. However, Navy responded by sweeping the remaining singles matches to take the team win.
Coach’s Reaction
“A tough day today,” head coach Jeff Puhan said after the match. “Credit to Navy for coming out strong. We now have to prepare for the top three teams in the Atlantic 10.”
What’s Next
Saint Joseph’s will now hit the road for two key conference matchups. The Hawks face VCU on Thursday and Richmond on Friday before returning home to close out the regular season against Fordham on Saturday.
