Rising Pacific Football Stars Gather in Auckland for 2025 OFC U-15 Tournament

Some of the brightest young football talents from across the Pacific have arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, for the 2025 OFC U-15 Boys Development Tournament, which begins today and runs through April 23.

Players from nine countries — Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, and Vanuatu — are taking part in the tournament, which is now in its third edition. Organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) in partnership with UEFA Together, the event alternates each year between boys and girls.

This youth tournament offers a rare opportunity for young Pacific footballers to experience the atmosphere of international competition. Unlike World Cup qualifiers, there is no pressure to advance — just the chance to represent their countries and grow as athletes.

“We are very excited to be offering this tournament for young players across the region,” said Owain Prosser, OFC’s Head of High Performance and Education.

“For many of them, this may be their first time traveling overseas or playing abroad as part of a national team.”

Prosser emphasized that the event helps players grow not just on the field, but as individuals. “It provides many opportunities for them to develop in a safe and supportive environment where the focus is on learning and enjoyment,” he said. “For some, this will be a memorable life experience. For others, it could be a stepping stone to a future career at the highest level.”

The games will follow a unique format, with three 25-minute thirds per match. Each match will end with a penalty shootout, regardless of the final score. As the focus is on development, the OFC will not broadcast the matches or announce the results.

The tournament also supports OFC’s long-term goal to improve the performance of its teams in international football. Alongside the players, the tournament gives important international experience to up-and-coming coaches and referees from across the region.

Prosser thanked UEFA Together for helping make the event possible. “Their support is key in delivering this tournament,” he said. “This partnership helps everyone involved — and inspires others to aim high and join future editions.”
