The Italian star showed visible discomfort during the third set of his Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters final against Carlos Alcaraz. Despite a strong performance in the early stages, Musetti struggled with movement and required treatment from ATP medical staff before falling in three sets.

“I don’t want to make excuses today — Carlos deserved to win,” Musetti said after the match. “But it was disappointing that I couldn’t fully show my game until the last point. I’ll take the next week off, skip Barcelona, and focus on being 100 percent for Madrid.”

The 22-year-old is having a strong season overall, holding a 12-5 win-loss record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He is set to reach a career-high No. 11 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.

Musetti was originally scheduled to be the eighth seed in the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona. With his withdrawal, American Frances Tiafoe moves into Musetti’s position as the ninth seed. A qualifier or lucky loser will now take Tiafoe’s original spot on Line 4 of the draw.

Musetti hopes to return in time for the Mutua Madrid Open, which begins next week.
