Ramos the Hero as Toulouse Edge Toulon in Champions Cup Thriller

Toulouse booked their spot in the Investec Champions Cup semi-finals with a dramatic 21–18 win over fellow Top 14 side Toulon at Stade Mayol, thanks to a clutch final-minute penalty from Thomas Ramos.

The French fullback held his nerve in the 80th minute to seal a tense and scrappy quarter-final, just minutes after missing an earlier attempt. Ramos was instrumental throughout, tallying eight points with the boot and setting up a second-half try in a contest that was more gritty than graceful.

Toulon dominated the first half on the scoreboard, with Melvyn Jaminet slotting four penalties to give the hosts a narrow lead at the break. However, a yellow card to Toulon scrum-half Baptiste Serin early in the second half proved a turning point.

Toulouse capitalised swiftly, with Jack Willis powering over from close range before centre Pita Ahki finished off a brilliant break by Ramos to swing the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.

Jaminet responded with two more penalties to draw the game level at 18–18 entering the final quarter, but Toulon missed multiple chances to pull ahead.

Just as extra time seemed likely, Ramos stepped up to convert the match-winning penalty, silencing the Stade Mayol crowd and sending five-time champions Toulouse through to the final four.

They will now face Bordeaux-Bègles, who knocked out Munster in another thrilling quarter-final.
