It was a long but rewarding Sunday for the Saint Joseph’s baseball team as the Hawks pulled off two dramatic wins over Fordham at Smithson Field. A dominant pitching performance and a pair of late-inning comebacks helped SJU take both games of the doubleheader, winning 5-2 in the opener and 11-10 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Saint Joseph’s 5, Fordham 2
How It Happened:
- Saint Joseph’s (16-17, 10-5 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Blake Primrose doubled and Tim Dickinson followed with an RBI single.
- Fordham responded in the fifth with a two-run homer by Tommy McAndrew after a single by Madden Ocko.
- The Hawks answered in the seventh, sparked by a 12-pitch walk from Alex Kelsey and a double by Carson Applegate. Owen Petrich drove in both with a double to reclaim the lead.
- Dickinson added an RBI bloop double, and Dean Bergmann singled to score him, extending the lead to 5-2.
- Starter Colton Book finished eight strong innings, and Luke Parise closed it out in the ninth for the save.

- Book struck out 10 and allowed just two runs on four hits over eight innings, earning his Atlantic 10-leading sixth win.

How It Happened:
- Fordham (15-21, 7-8 A-10) opened the scoring in the first, but SJU responded in the second with a two-run single by Michael Pierson.
- The Rams took control with a three-run sixth and three more in the seventh to go up 10-4.
- The Hawks chipped away with two runs in the seventh on a Dickinson single.
- In the eighth, Kelsey walked to start another big rally. After a double by Primrose and two Fordham errors, Pierson tied the game with an RBI double. Kelsey then hit a grounder that allowed the go-ahead run to score.
- Fordham put the tying run on base in the ninth, but a clutch throw by Aidan Duda caught the runner stealing to seal the comeback win.
Behind the Box Score:
- Matt Fitzgibbon pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win, and Sam Greer closed the door in the ninth for the save.
- Dickinson had another three-hit game, finishing the day 6-for-8 with three runs and four RBI.
- Primrose and Pagano each scored twice, while Pierson and Primrose had two RBI apiece.
