In a historic step for Blind Football in Africa, Uganda has been selected to host the first-ever IBSA Blind Football African Championship Division 2 in October 2025. This will mark Uganda’s debut in an International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football Championship, highlighting the sport’s growing reach across the continent.
The tournament will serve as a gateway to the top tier of competition. The two highest-ranking teams from the Division 2 Championship will qualify for the 2027 IBSA Blind Football African Championship Division 1. This structure offers a clear path for emerging teams to compete at higher levels, helping to develop the sport in Africa.
Beyond the games themselves, the championship will also focus on long-term growth. It will support the training and accreditation of new Technical Officials and a Technical Delegate from Africa. This effort is part of a broader mission by IBSA President Ilgar Rahimov and the new IBSA Board to promote the development of blind sports in all regions of the world.
The event represents a significant legacy project, with the potential to inspire athletes and expand blind football’s presence throughout Africa.
