The IUP women’s tennis team earned an impressive 5–2 victory over a nationally ranked opponent, the Wildcats, on Sunday afternoon. The win marked the Crimson Hawks’ sixth straight and capped off a dominant weekend on the road.
Head coach Andrew McGlashen praised the team’s resilience and performance. “We traveled four hours, swept yesterday’s match 7–0, and came back today to beat a top-20 team,” McGlashen said.
IUP opened the match by sweeping all three doubles courts with identical 6–2 scores to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, No. 1 Lieselotte Hartlohner earned a straight-set win, 6–3, 6–4. Ming Deewajee at No. 2 started strong with a 6–1 first set but dropped the next two, falling in three sets. No. 3 Dani Ramos secured a dominant 6–2, 6–1 victory.
At No. 4, Hannah Beitat forced a third-set tiebreak after losing the first set 3–6, but ultimately came up short 6–10. Asel Calbay delivered a solid win at No. 5 with scores of 6–1, 6–2, and Annemiek Sterk closed out the day with a 6–4, 6–2 victory at No. 6.
