The event takes place at the Jackie Robinson Training Center in Vero Beach, Florida, and brings together nearly 100 girls ages 12 to 14 from across 26 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces.
Now in its eighth year, the Trailblazer Series offers participants a chance to improve their baseball skills through on-field training and off-field mentorship. The athletes selected all have experience playing baseball and are looking to take their game to the next level.
The weekend-long series also includes mentorship sessions led by some of the most respected names in women’s baseball. Among the coaches are current and former members of the U.S. women’s national baseball team, including shortstop Valerie Perez and two-time national team member Meggie Medilinger.
Veronica Alvarez, MLB’s first girls baseball ambassador, is also part of the coaching staff. Alvarez is a gold medalist with the U.S. Women’s National Team and a key figure in MLB’s youth development programs. She has been involved with the Trailblazer Series since its start in 2017.
The event runs each year just before Jackie Robinson Day, which celebrates the legacy of the iconic MLB player who broke baseball’s color barrier. On Saturday, MLB and the Jackie Robinson Training Complex will also host a special PLAYBALL event for local youth in Indian River County. Participants will get a tour of the facility and receive a free bat and ball set.
Off the field, participants will hear from trailblazing women in the sport. Featured guests include Maybelle Blair and Jeneane Lesko, two former players from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League — the same league that inspired the movie A League of Their Own.
Since its launch in 2017, the Trailblazer Series has stood out as a leading platform for girls in baseball, combining elite training with inspiration from the sport’s pioneers. The goal is simple: to help more young girls see a place for themselves in the game — both now and in the future.
