The Sam Houston women’s tennis team will finish its 2025 regular season this weekend with two home matches at the Beckner Tennis Center in Huntsville. The Bearkats are set to face Middle Tennessee State on Friday and Liberty on Sunday.
Middle Tennessee comes in with a strong 15-6 overall record, while Liberty holds a 10-11 mark. Both matches are part of Conference USA play.
Normally, the final home weekend of the season features Senior Day celebrations. However, with a roster made up of four juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman, there are no seniors on this year’s team.
The Bearkats will again be playing with a limited lineup due to injuries. Last weekend, the team had only five available players, forcing them to default the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.
Nayuma Subba, Christine Jevicky, Adithi Venkatakrishman, Aaliyah Hohmann, and Ella Fitcher will compete in both singles and doubles matches this weekend.
“Starting with two players out is tough, but these ladies are fighters,” said head coach Rob Hubbard. “Even when our last match was already decided, we were still battling hard in the remaining sets. All five of our players are ready to give everything in these final two home matches.”
Following the weekend matches, the Kats will compete in the Conference USA postseason tournament from April 17 to 19 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA National Championships.
