Carthage and Loras will meet for the second consecutive year in the CCIW Men’s Volleyball Championship match after both teams swept their semifinal opponents on Wednesday night.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. at Tarble Arena in Kenosha.
Carthage Advances with Sweep Over Augustana
Top-seeded Carthage defeated #4 Augustana in straight sets, 25-11, 25-16, 25-19. Owen Hendricks led the Firebirds with 12 kills, 10 digs, and a service ace, while Ryan Morey assisted on 35 of Carthage’s 40 kills. This victory marks Carthage’s fifth consecutive appearance in the CCIW Championship final.
Carthage’s offense was efficient, hitting at a .337 clip. Owen Otto added 10 kills, and Devon O’Callaghan contributed three service aces. Hudson Sweitzer added four block assists and one solo block. Augustana concluded the season with a 12-14 record. Ben Schultz paced the Vikings with seven kills and a block.
Loras Defeats North Central to Reach Championship
Second-seeded Loras completed a 3-set sweep of #3 North Central, winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. Corey Mayotte led the Duhawks with 19 kills and two service aces. Nolan Krygsheld recorded 11 digs and three aces, while Evan Dziadkowiec logged 37 assists and four blocks.
The first set saw the score tied at 19-19 before Loras closed on a 6-2 run to win. In the second set, the Duhawks led by as many as eight points. Mayotte’s kill broke a 23-23 tie in the final set, and he finished the match with his 19th kill to seal the victory.
North Central was led by Carson Steinbach with 12 kills and five digs. Cooper Lundal and Tyler Donovan contributed six block assists each, with Donovan adding 26 of the Cardinals’ 28 assists.
