Elon University’s football team will kick off its 2025 season with a Thursday night game against Duke on August 28. The specific time and television or streaming details will be provided later this spring or summer in collaboration with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Elon has opened its season against a power conference opponent. The Phoenix faced Vanderbilt in 2022, Wake Forest in 2023, and now will take on Duke to begin the 2025 season. This will be Elon’s second straight season opener against Duke.
For the past three years, Elon has played its season openers on days other than the traditional Saturday. In 2023, the Phoenix faced Wake Forest on a Thursday night, while in 2024, Elon played Duke on a Friday evening.
The 2025 Elon Football team enters the season with momentum after finishing the 2024 campaign with a four-game win streak. During this stretch, the Phoenix averaged 38.0 points per game, scoring at least 31 points in each of those victories. Elon is the only team in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) to finish above .500 in conference play for the past four seasons. With 22 conference wins over that span, Elon has tied its best four-year stretch since joining the FCS ranks.
