New Orleans senior David Tesic has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, marking the second consecutive day a Privateer has earned a Southland weekly award. The announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Dominant Week for Tesic
Tesic continued his impressive season with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play last week, including two conference victories at flight five. His strong performances have improved his overall spring record to 10-1.
Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tesic secured one of New Orleans’ two points with a hard-fought three-set win over Nicolas Trebuchet, finishing 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
Two days later, he played a crucial role in the Privateers’ sweep of Nicholls. In the final match of the afternoon, Tesic pulled away late in the second set to earn a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Felipe Spagnuolo.
He capped off his week with dominant performances against Copiah-Lincoln CC. Teaming up with Marius Gyllerup, he secured a 6-0 victory at flight three doubles. In singles, he dropped just one game, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight four.
A Historic Honor for Tesic
Tesic is the first Privateer this season to receive a Southland tennis weekly award. His recognition follows Grant Edwards’ selection as Southland Pitcher of the Week, which was announced on Monday.
