The Mountain East Conference (MEC) has announced its Male and Female Tennis Players of the Week, with Ricardo Starosta of West Virginia Wesleyan and Sofiia Krasikova of Charleston earning this week’s honors. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Starosta Dominates for Wesleyan
Starosta, a sophomore from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, had an outstanding week, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record. He played a key role in Wesleyan’s dominant non-conference performances, including a 4-0 victory over Shaw (N.C.) and a 7-0 shutout against West Chester (Pa.).
In singles play, Starosta secured a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Shaw and followed up with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against West Chester. He also contributed in doubles, earning a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Krasikova Shines for Charleston
Krasikova, a junior from Castellón, Spain, helped Charleston secure two key wins over the week. Competing in No. 2 doubles, she teamed up with Michelle Connor to claim victories in a 5-2 win over Indiana (Pa.) and a 4-0 shutout against Frostburg State.
In singles, Krasikova delivered a dominant straight-set victory at No. 1 against IUP and was leading her No. 1 singles match against Frostburg State when Charleston clinched the team win.
