The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) has announced its weekly volleyball honors, with standout performances from New Jersey City University and Rutgers-Newark taking center stage.
Player of the Week: Marcus Pardasie (New Jersey City University)
Sophomore outside hitter Marcus Pardasie has been named NJAC Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career and the third time in four weeks. He played a crucial role in NJCU’s 3-0 record this past week, delivering one of the most efficient attacking performances of the season.
Pardasie totaled 40 kills while hitting an impressive .536, averaging 4.44 kills, 5.28 points, and 2.00 digs per set over nine sets. His standout performances included:
- 16 kills on 19 swings (.842) in a sweep of Manhattanville
- 11 kills against St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn
- 13 kills versus Sarah Lawrence
Additionally, he recorded four service aces, five total blocks, and had two matches without a single attack error. He also tallied a week-high eight digs against Manhattanville.
Defensive Player of the Week: Derek Au (Rutgers-Newark)
Graduate setter Derek Au was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading Rutgers-Newark to its fifth straight NJAC title. Au showcased his all-around game, recording:
- 107 assists over nine sets (11.89 assists per set)
- 2.33 digs per set
- 0.44 blocks per set
In the championship-clinching win over Kean, he posted 54 assists and 14 digs while also becoming Rutgers-Newark’s all-time leader in career assists. He followed that performance with 53 assists, seven digs, and two blocks in a thrilling five-set victory against Marymount.
Rookie of the Week: Alex Solodky (Rutgers-Newark)
Freshman outside hitter Alex Solodky became the third Rutgers-Newark player this season to earn NJAC Rookie of the Week honors. His breakout performances helped Rutgers-Newark capture the NJAC title.
Solodky’s stats over nine sets included:
- 37 kills (4.11 per set)
- 17 digs (1.89 per set)
- 41.5 total points (4.61 per set)
- .253 hitting percentage
He was particularly dominant in the title match against Kean, racking up 24 kills with a .400 hitting percentage and 26 total points. He also contributed 13 kills, 10 digs, and 15.5 points in a five-set win over Marymount, along with four blocks and two aces during the week.
