The Brown baseball team is set to begin an eight-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon, facing Bryant at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. This matchup will be the fourth and final meeting between the two Rhode Island programs this season.
Series History
Brown has won two of the three games against Bryant this year. However, the Bears have struggled in recent years, going 3-7 in their last 10 matchups with the Bulldogs. They are aiming for their first season series win over Bryant since 2017 when they took three of four games.
Scouting Brown (4-16, 1-5 Ivy League)
The Bears are coming off a tough series at Cornell. They won the opener 5-4 but lost the second game 9-6. In the series finale, they led 20-13 in the eighth inning before the game was cut short due to weather, reverting the score back to 13-10 in seven innings.
Freshman third baseman Christina Butera has been a standout performer. She hit .389 last week (7-for-18) and currently ranks fourth in the Ivy League with a .358 batting average.
Junior outfielder Mika Petersen is also among the league’s top hitters, ranking fifth with a .355 average. Junior DJ Dillehay is another key contributor, hitting .316 with a team-high 14 RBIs.
Butera enters Tuesday’s game on an eight-game hitting streak and a 13-game on-base streak.
Scouting Bryant (11-14-1, 2-4 America East)
The Bulldogs recently played a three-game series at UMass Lowell, winning the finale 9-2 after dropping the first two games.
Drew Wyers led the team with a strong weekend, going 6-for-9 and raising his season batting average to .372. He also has a team-best .483 on-base percentage.
Brandyn Durand (.330) and Gavin Noriega (.290) have been among Bryant’s most productive hitters, each recording 26 RBIs this season. Durand also leads the team with six home runs.
