The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly tennis awards for the eighth week of the 2025 spring season. Purdue Northwest sophomore Alex van Lumich and Saginaw Valley State senior Adriana Barrio have been recognized for their outstanding performances.
Men’s Player of the Week: Alex van Lumich (Purdue Northwest)
Alex van Lumich continues to shine in collegiate tennis, earning his second GLIAC Men’s Player of the Week award this season. The Purdue Northwest standout, currently ranked 26th in doubles and 38th in singles, played a key role in his team’s success over the weekend.
He helped PNW secure a 4-3 victory over Tusculum, dominating at #1 singles with a straight-set win (6-1, 6-4) against Rens Verhaar. His biggest moment came against Grand Valley State, where he delivered crucial wins in both singles and doubles. Partnering with Dickson, van Lumich edged out Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez in a tight 7-5 match at #1 doubles. He then fought back from a first-set loss to defeat Denys Zamaraiev 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in singles, capping off a stellar weekend.
Women’s Player of the Week: Adriana Barrio (Saginaw Valley State)
Saginaw Valley State senior Adriana Barrio claimed this week’s GLIAC Women’s Player of the Week honor after an impressive showing at #1 singles. She helped the Cardinals sweep their matches and improve to 2-1 in conference play.
Barrio began the week with a hard-fought three-set victory over Michigan Tech. She followed up with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win against Lake Superior State, solidifying her place as one of the conference’s top players.
