Jasmine Paolini has advanced to the Miami Open semifinals for the first time in her career.
The sixth-seeded Italian defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday, becoming the first woman to secure a spot in this year’s final four.
Paolini also made history as the first Italian woman to reach the Miami Open semifinals. Before her, six Italian women had made it to the quarterfinals, with Martina Trevisan being the most recent in 2023.
In the semifinals, Paolini will face either top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka or ninth-seeded Qinwen Zheng of China. Their quarterfinal match was scheduled for later Tuesday night but was delayed due to rain.
On the other side of the women’s draw, quarterfinal matches will take place on Wednesday. Fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula of the U.S. will face Britain’s Emma Raducanu, while second-seeded Iga Swiatek will play Alexandra Eala of the Philippines.
