Inter Milan’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi, has been awarded the prestigious 2023-24 Panchina d’Oro (Golden Bench) in recognition of his role in securing the team’s Scudetto victory last season.
The Panchina d’Oro is an annual award presented to the best coaches in Italy, which was originally decided by journalists but is now determined by votes from coaches across the Italian football pyramid, including Serie A, Serie B femminile, and, since 2016-17, men’s and women’s Futsal leagues. The award ceremony took place on March 24, 2025.
This marks Inzaghi’s first win of the coveted award, and it is the first time an Inter coach has claimed the Panchina d’Oro since Antonio Conte in the 2020-21 season. Before Conte, José Mourinho was the last Inter coach to receive the honor in 2009-10.
Inzaghi secured the 2023-24 award with a clear majority of 26 votes. Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini finished second with 14 votes, and Vincenzo Italiano took third with four votes.
Panchina d’Argento and Other Awards
In addition to the Golden Bench, Fabio Pecchia, who led Parma to the Serie B title, won the 2023-24 Panchina d’Argento (Silver Bench), which recognizes coaches in Serie B. Paolo Vanoli, who guided Venezia to promotion, finished second, while Vincenzo Vivarini, who took US Catanzaro to fifth place, earned third.
Lifetime Achievement Award for Carlo Ancelotti
Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This special recognition is given on rare occasions and has only been awarded to five coaches previously, the most recent being Luis Vicino in 2016.
Special Award for Gasperini
Gian Piero Gasperini also received a ‘special’ award for leading Atalanta to triumph in the 2023-24 Europa League.
