The New Orleans Beach Volleyball team faced a challenging field at the Southland Conference Mid-Conference event, finishing the weekend with a 0-6 record. Despite the tough results, the Privateers showed resilience and closed out the competition with victories on court 4 against Stephen F. Austin and court 1 against McNeese.
New Orleans struggled on the first two days of play, falling in straight sets against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Christian. The team’s lineup remained consistent throughout the tournament as they sought to find their rhythm.
Final Day Shows Signs of Progress
Day 3 provided the best results for the Privateers, as Ashley Salazar and Jaedyn Newman secured a straight-sets victory on court 4 against Stephen F. Austin. Later in the day, New Orleans earned its second win of the tournament with an impressive comeback on court 1 against McNeese.
Nikelle Lander and Ivana de Carvalho Peixe staged a dramatic turnaround after dropping the first set. Their energy and determination carried them through a dominant third set, where they secured the match with a commanding 15-4 victory. De Carvalho Peixe controlled the net, while Lander delivered strong serves and kept the momentum alive with vocal leadership.
Despite the overall match losses, the Privateers took away key lessons from the weekend. The team focused on maintaining control in difficult moments and building a foundation for future success. Their next step is refining their ability to close out sets and convert strong performances into match victories.
