Missouri State secured an emphatic 8-2 win over Bradley on Sunday at Hammons Field, completing a three-game sweep to start Missouri Valley Conference play for the first time since 2017.
The Bears (10-12, 3-0) saw production throughout the lineup, with their 4-8 hitters each collecting two hits. Curry Sutherland led the charge, tying his career high with four RBIs while homering for the third consecutive game.
Pitching was equally dominant. Starter Tyler Charlton (4-1) delivered five scoreless innings, allowing just four singles and striking out six. Jackson Holmes followed with a four-inning save, striking out four.
Missouri State took control early. Max Knight doubled to open the second inning and scored on a Zack Stewart single. Carter Bergman led off the third with his third home run of the season, making it 2-0.
Sutherland extended the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth. Caden Bogenpohl, who stretched his on-base streak to 35 games, walked in the fifth and later scored on one of Taeg Gollert’s two doubles. Sutherland added another run in the sixth after drawing a walk and scoring on a wild pitch before capping his day with a two-run single in the eighth.
Bradley (3-16, 0-3) managed single runs in the sixth and seventh innings but saw a critical opportunity slip away in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Missouri State turned one of its season-high three double plays to escape the jam.
Missouri State looks to build on its momentum as conference play continues.
