Italy’s exit from the UEFA Nations League means they will enter Group I for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will compete against Norway, Estonia, Moldova, and Israel. Their campaign begins on June 6.
The Azzurri had slim hopes of reaching the Nations League Final Four after losing the first leg 2-1 to Germany at San Siro. In Dortmund, they fought to a dramatic 3-3 draw but failed to overturn the deficit. As a result, Germany advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, which they will also host in June.
With their Nations League run over, Italy is placed in a full five-team group for World Cup qualifying. Their journey starts with an away match against Norway, led by star striker Erling Haaland, on June 6. They will then return home to face Moldova on June 9.
Italy will host Estonia on September 5 before playing Israel at a neutral venue on September 8. October will feature an away match against Estonia on the 11th and a home fixture against Israel on the 14th. The campaign concludes with a trip to Moldova on November 13, followed by a decisive home game against Norway on November 16.
Only the group winners will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The second-place team will enter the play-offs in March 2026.
